What are the PDP and FEC?

The Professional Development Program (PDP) is a 52-contact hour interdisciplinary continuing education program in geriatrics and gerontology. This year, with Healthy Aging as the focus, three hour learning components will include presentations on: Medicare Part D; HIV/AIDS; Housing; End-of-Life Care; Hoarding; Osteoporosis; Substance Abuse; Managing Dementia; Cultural Competency; and many more topics! At the end of the PDP, participants receive a Continuing Education Certificate in Healthy Aging, and become a WAGECC Fellow. As a WAGECC Fellow, graduates may elect to participate in the Fellows Education Continuum (FEC), which is a 26- contact hour extension of the PDP for Fellows. If you have already taken the 52- contact hour PDP and would like to register for the FEC Program, please note this on the appropriate place on the registration form.

Requirements for PDP Participants:

  • Interactive Lecture Session – Attend a lecture on Speech Pathology Issues and the Older Adult. 2 contact hours.
  • Clinical Observation Site Visits - Visit 4 WAGECC-affiliated sites in the community that serve primarily minority populations. Each site provides three credit hours for a total of 12 contact hours.
  • Didactic Sessions – Select 6, three-hour sessions – 18 contact hours. Lectures present a variety of Healthy Aging.
  • The WAGECC Enrichment Series – A day of presentations on various aspects of Healthy Aging. 8 contact hours.
  • Online Explorer – Review and discuss a component of one of the WAGECC website learning modules utilizing WAGECC’s website components: the Learner’s Explorer; Assisted Living; En Español; and the new Asian Aging learning module. 12 contact hours.

  • Didactic Sessions – Select 3, three-hour sessions – 9 contact hours. Lectures present a variety of Healthy Aging.
  • The WAGECC Enrichment Series – A day of presentations on various aspects of Healthy Aging. 8 contact hours.
  • Online Explorer – Review and discuss a component of one of the WAGECC website learning modules utilizing WAGECC’s website components: the Learner’s Explorer; Assisted Living; En Español; and the new Asian Aging learning module. 4 contact hours.
